Choosing Safe Sun Protection {Bare Belly Organics *Coupon}

You are probably used to coming to our site to learn about what you are putting IN your body. Today, I want to talk about how important it is to know what you are putting ON your body. If you haven't heard already, the FDA recently suggested discontinuing use of spray-on sunscreens. If you are not sure what to use now that the spray-on option is out, I would like to offer a few pointers and maybe even a coupon!

Figure out what your sunblock needs are. Do you need a sunblock that is water resistant? How long do you need it to be effective?
Decide what application method works best for your needs. Do you like a roll on, a squeeze bottle, a tub or a stick? The easier it is to re-apply, the more likely you will!
Be picky about your comfort. Pick a sunblock that isn't greasy, slimy or stinky!
Decide where you stand on chemicals. If you ARE NOT interested in lathering yourself with a product that will introduce chemicals into your bloodstream- then you need to check the labels for "non-nano" ingredients.

For our family, I was looking for a product that would protect my kids either in the backyard or in the pool. I like sunscreen that is easy to apply- but I am worried about the spray-ons due to M's asthma. I also knew that I didn't want sunscreen that made me want to shower as soon as I applied it! I already had a feeling that anything that comes in an aerosol was probably not a great idea to spray on your skin, but I never really thought about the amount of chemicals in popular sunblock products.

At the beginning of the summer, I had the pleasure of meeting the creators of Bare Belly Organics at the GFAF Expo. I talked to Jill and Lisa about what I wanted out of my sunscreen and they had me try their line of organic sun protection. Let me tell you- I am in love with it!

My kids are Bare Belly kids!

M was super excited to try the Sunscreen Face Stick.

Peanut got ahold of the Sunscreen Body Stick!

This afternoon, we actually had a product comparison! I had M close her eyes and pick the one that she thought smelled the best and felt the best on her skin- both times she picked Bare Belly Organics! Next, I compared the ingredients. I could not even pronounce all of the chemical ingredients in our old sunblock. I was floored by how few ingredients were in the Bare Belly products- and I could pronounce them all!

I know what I will be using on my family this summer! Do you?

Have a fun and safe summer!

  1. I tend to use spray on sunscreen with my kids only because it's like 40,553 times easier, but I think I love this product, so I want to try some :)

Not many people realize what they put on their body gets into their body. I try not to use anything that can harm our liver, kidneys etc...

  4. Oxybenzone... that's the worst hormone disruptor and endometriosis causing ingredient. Not to mention "regular" sunscreens burn my face now! Only zinc and non nano for us! :) Hubs noticed that when we switched he didn't burn as easily :) I need to re-up our supply before the beach trip! I'm SO HAPPY about this coupon and review.

I like the lotions because I think you get more even and thorough coverage that way. I don't want all those chemicals in there either.

  7. I LOVE this! I hate how many chemicals they put in everything now in days! We've lived without chemicals so why are they trying to put it into everything. I have tried a few "organic" sunscreens and they're pretty good but I really want to try bare belly now!

I like spray applications the best, but I don't have kids, so the fumes aren't as much of an issues. I like the sticks for my face :)

  35. I love that there are now so many skin products that are not made with harmful chemicals. It's alarming how many chemicals we absorb through our skin.

I'm going to get Bare Belly sunscreen for my teens. My daughter has sensitive skin and needs sun protection for band camp. I bough some nasty spray sun screen a few weeks ago and regretted it almost immediately. The fumes were awful, then we heard the bad news about them.
