Posts from the Past: Baby Blues or Just Ramblings?

I thought everyone could would get a kick out of this- my first attempt at blogging!

This was my "About Me" section from 2009.

When I wrote this post, I was still new to motherhood and adjusting to the lifestyle of a SAHM. We found out about my pregnancy when I was 24, at a time when most of our friends were still dating or recently engaged. When M was born, my husband was working his butt off on the overnight shift. She was a sweet baby, but she was the worst sleeper! I remember many nights of pushing M around the house in a stroller at 4 AM in an attempt to get her to sleep.

I was happy with being a wife and mother, but I felt lost without my friends. I felt that a blog would be a good way to voice my frustrations with the loneliness and feelings of abandonment. Looking back now, the post is still important to me. There are no graphics, photos, hyperlinks or even a clear organization- but it was a way to get my head straight.

I still like the blog's name- but the tag line is super cliché! Amazing stock graphics, right?

So- a funny thing happens when you have a baby- people disappear. When you are pregnant everyone gets so excited and vows their every spare moment to your every possible need! But when the baby is born and the newborn visits are over, it get very lonely.

In honor of this phenomenon I would like to make a top ten list of things I never thought that I would say pre-parenthood. However- I say these so frequently that I could only come up with 6- oh well. What is so great about these is they are all considered acceptable topics of discussion at the dinner table (only amongst other parents- some people get grossed out- obviously they aren't around often enough to find any of these funny)

Things I NEVER thought I'd say before the birth of my daughter... here goes!

6. "She only crapped on 2 outfits today!"

5. "Did she poop yet today? I fed her prunes and I wanted to see if her poo came out purple!"
4. "Yeah! She pooped!"
3. "Please be sure to put that outfit in the 'to be oxy-cleaned' PILE"
2. "I love how cute it is when she farts in the morning"
1. "I have boogers on my shoulder? Today must be my day- just one shoulder!"

This entry was prompted by the onslaught of status updates on Facebook regarding babies. I have a few select friends of mine who have had babies "before the curve"- for them I will be eternally grateful. I would have been completely lost without them. I am starting to feel like a "veteran parent" now that everyone else is finally getting married and having their planned babies. Odd, seeing as I have only been a mommy for a little over half a year.

So- to all you parents to be- congrats! Here is my advice to you- register for size 3 and up diapers, invest in stain removal spray and enjoy the company you keep as of now. Once you have a "scream machine" they will all leave you until they have their own :)

Also- to those amazing women who are trying so hard to get pregnant- enjoy the process! Screaming babies are the anti- aphrodisiac. Either way, hang in there- it is so worth it.

*Disclaimer- this is intended to be completely lighthearted!
I am very thankful for all the love and support that Randy and I have received*

I hope that you enjoyed this passive aggressive stroll down memory lane. On a serious note, remember to reach out to your friends after they have a baby. "Baby Blues" are no fun!

  1. Having kids brings on a whole new language that we never thought we would be saying or writing for that matter. Hahaha... Poop becomes a part of our normal conversation, Doesn't it?

  2. I went to my high school reunion last night and people kept asking me what I did these days & I told everyone that I was a SAHM. A few people were totally baffled by it, but I told them that there was no doubt in my mind that I did more work in a day then they did in a week.

  3. Totally get it. We had our first at 25 after being married for 3 years! And, all of the rest of our friends were no where close. They would call us to do things and we were like, um, no, we can't come out late, we have a newborn! So, then we became the youngest friends in a new circle of friends!

  4. This was a cute post! I don't have kids yet, but all my friends who've kid felt like you, people are all excited until the kids are born...then after two weeks the hype dies down. That sucks but I am glad you made light of the situation I loved #2 LOL

  6. My friends used to laugh with me and at me I was the first to be a mom and the first to be worried if my shoulder had boogies or what color did my baby poop today. Later on they would call me to ask what woould meant if their babies pooped to dark to light or bue lol

  7. LOL It's amazing how preoccupied we become over poop as parents.

  8. Haha you sure got most of it down. I don't know if I would change anything though. I had my first 18 years ago and at the time thought my life was almost over but loved the screaming and the diaper changing. I guess I loved it too much because I now have a 2yr old to deal with again. :)

  9. Stay connected with "the outside" is so important when you have a new little one. New mamas should go at their own pace + be okay with things not being "perfect." :)

  10. I can so relate to the "only one shoulder" comment. When my son was a baby, he had colic and spit up like nobody's business. I didn't own a single tee shirt that wasn't spit up stained!

  11. I had my daughter at 22 so I can understand much of what you mean as a young mother. Yeah, all gross things like pee and poop are just normal topics now :)

  13. I had my oldest when I was very young and my youngest when I was very (um, old?). :) Totally different experiences. Totally (like the two in between) priceless. :) Your post was fun!

  14. I was the first of my friends to have a baby so I can so relate! Things are better now that I'm almost thirty but for awhile I felt lonely!

  16. I had my first at 26 and I was late in the game compared to the kids I went to high school with...but not the ones I went to college with. I was already somewhat isolated just having moved 2000 miles away from my family but I did keep working and made wonderful friends there.

Loved your post and having a baby sure does change things.

  18. I had my first at a time when my friends were going through the same life transitions as yours. I lost a few friends, but the ones who stayed are golden.

  20. I just joined a MOMS club and I'm loving it. I don't know if I've necessarily made friends already, but I'm being social and interacting with other moms. That's my advice for new moms: join a club or group for moms.

  21. Once you have a child you end up saying lots of things you never thought you would. After 4 kids I can definitely say I can relate!

  22. Blogging is how I connected with other mommies when I had my kiddos too. Even though some of my friends also had kids, it was such a chore to leave home or coordinate trips out that I needed a way to still chat with other mamas. As far as things I never expected I'd say... I think I could come up with a list too, especially after 4 kiddos. lol
