M's Mini Series: The Fairy Garden

One of the activities on our summer to do list was to design and plant a "fairy garden" for M. She picked out all of the components and helped with the placement and planting! This is a great activity to teach your children to pay attention to details, to plan and to garden- all while using their imagination. Here are a few pointers on how to design your own fairy garden.

Choose a variety of flowers with smaller blooms.
Depending on the size of the container, you can place at least five different plants.

When you and your child are planting the flowers, be sure to put taller flowers in the back and flowers that cascade close to the edge of the planter. Leave a space in the middle for the "fairy house!"

Place a solar pathway lantern in the middle of the planter-push it down into the dirt.

Have your child accessorize with glass beads and small yard ornaments.

The lantern measures at 5'' tall. The ceramic and glass ornament are 2'' tall.

A simple & whimsical garden addition.

Be sure to let you kids stay up a little late the night that you plant your fairy garden- the lantern lights up the path! So magical!

Happy gardening!

My daughter, M, has always been fascinated by petite versions of everyday items.
This is the first post in "M's Mini Series."
