I had one of those "I love being a mommy" days yesterday! Don't get me wrong, I love being a parent everyday- but sometimes the rewards truly outweigh the daily challenges.
M has always hated getting her hair brushed. It is has always been a battle to simply run a brush through her hair or wash her hair during bath time. As soon as she catches wind that we are going to touch her hair she will scream, cry, whine or runaway.
Last night before bed, I pulled out the brush and braced myself for the inevitable grooming battle. She did not fight it. She did not scream. She did not cry. She did not whine. She did not run away. Being the crazy person I am, I decided to push my luck and attempt a braid. M loved it! She ran out of the bathroom to show her daddy her new "Elsa hair." A few moments later, she brought me the brush and an additional hair tie. M was requesting a new style- "Anna hair!" I happily obliged and gently placed two braids in my daughter's hair.
What may seem like a small task to most- was a huge victory for us. I have always lamented having a daughter with beautiful hair- that I couldn't play with. I looked at my husband and said, "You have no idea how happy this makes me!" I could tell by the look on his face that he knew how much this meant to me because he was there to see OUR baby making progress.
Don't forget to hand the camera over!
Get in front of the lens and take a picture with your kids!
What a sweet photo! I've had moments like these. Not in regards to the hair brushing, but with teeth brushing, potty training, just getting out of bed in the morning. I hate feeling so tense around my child and love when he'll cooperate more!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo. I certainly understand the hair woes with the little ones. My 5yo absolutely hated having her hair done before getting it cut.
ReplyDeleteI have naturally curly hair and gave my mother quite the hassle when I was a little girl about getting my hair brushed. Hey, it hurt. Thank god I discovered keratin treatments as an adult and those curls are LONG GONE!
ReplyDeleteOh, I so understand! Sometimes those little victories mean big things. Yay for a good hair night! Cute mommy & me photo :)
ReplyDeleteI love it when those victories are made! What a sweet girl you have.
ReplyDeleteyay for Anna hair! I KNOW that is a huge step for her! And to ask for it all on her own is even bigger!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I imagine your days of fighting to brush her hair are behind you and your days of master of the braids in front of you!
ReplyDeleteElsa hair... love it! My girls are the same way. So when they sit patiently, it is time to play with their hair! :)
ReplyDeleteHow funny that the movie tie-in made such a difference. I'm glad!
ReplyDeleteGreat picture! I am happy I found your site. I think we have a lot in common.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Whatever work, right? Not if I can just figure out how to get my daughter to EAT. Maybe convincing her that Woody and Buzz eat their dinner every night too would help. ;)
ReplyDeleteAw, I LOVE this so much! What pretty hair!
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to have to fight to brush my hair. They were so tough on her.
ReplyDeleteThat is just awesome. Love hair and the fun you had.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless the makers of Frozen! So many girls love this movie that they will sacrifice Owie tangles to look like their role models.. Elsa and Anna. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely small victories can be monumental! I totally understand and thanks to Frozen!
ReplyDeleteAww! This is such a sweet story and a lovely photo! You both look so happy, it's moments like this that make it all worthwhile :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is getting ready to turn 15 and we still have hair brushing woes from time to time lol. It seems that Frozen is the key to getting little girls to do a lot of things lately. That movie is a miracle worker :)
ReplyDeleteThose precious moments are the ones you will cherish forever. I remember when it was difficult to get my daughter to let me style her hair. Now I love curling and braiding it almost daily.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story. I had that feeling all weekend since we were at home as a family enjoying the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteI love days like that! When my daughter cooperates or is finally into something, it just makes everything better.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a great day. She does have beautiful hair!!
ReplyDeleteAww, hurrah for good days. No hurrah for great days, and the Elsa braid is very cute. :)
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness I love the "elsa & anna" hair trick. I may have to use that on my niece :) Adorable!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, I remember those special moments when my kids were younger. they still like to be around me and that's still special, but it was even more so when they were little. Glad you had a great day
ReplyDeleteShe looks really cute! My daughter deson't give me a problem about brusing her hair - but I can never braid her hair.

ReplyDeleteYay! She found something that interested her enough to help her through! Great picture!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Sometimes it's the little moments that make it all worth it. I love the Elsa and Anna thing. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great moment! I totally get what you mean about those good days. I always love being a mom, but there are some days where it's easier to love it. ;)

Cute story - I hated my hair brushed!
ReplyDeleteI always hated having my hair brushed when I was a little girl. I was and still am very tender headed. I'm glad that she turned the corner, but who wouldn't want Elsa hair! lol.
ReplyDeleteAwww! What a sweet moment! Awesome that she was so happy with it!!
ReplyDeleteMy girl won't let me touch her hair. LOL But she's a beauty follower and makes sure she brushes it stroke by stroke. Glad you had a good mommy day.
ReplyDeleteAww! Such a sweet post. She looks too cute. :) You may be doing more braiding than you bargained for now. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute photo! We define braids by Elsa and Anna too!
ReplyDeleteBeing a mama is always a good thing, however some days it just seems like such a wondeful choice that all the bad says are forgotten or minimalized in our minds.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! And the picture is so precious! Those moments are the best :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great moment! The photo speaks for itself - you are both happy and glowing :)
